Every once in a while, a leader comes along who doesn’t just occupy a position—they redefine it. That leader is Dr. Ruth Ray Jackson, the 17th and historic President of Langston University.
Whether chatting with students in the café, supporting a basketball game, or dropping by offices to check in, President Jackson leads with authenticity and presence. She doesn’t just attend student events—she immerses herself in the Langston experience.
But let’s also talk about the excellence behind the elegance.
Under her watch, Langston University achieved the Carnegie Classification for High Research Activity (R2), a prestigious national ranking that elevates our academic credibility and research standing. This is no small feat and marks a pivotal moment in our university’s 127-year history. That recognition was earned, not inherited.
She continues to collect honors and awards across the state and nation for her visionary leadership, educational impact, and steadfast commitment to student success.
We share Louisiana roots—hers from the rich culture of southern Louisiana (gumbo, Zydeco, Mardi Gras) and mine from the quiet traditions of northern Louisiana. Yet what binds us most is our mutual love for students and unwavering belief in their potential.
Her inauguration ceremony was a reminder: we didn’t just get a president—we gained a movement.
As Dean of the School of Business, I am honored to serve under such extraordinary leadership. President Jackson makes history daily, and I’m proud to walk alongside her as we build Langston’s future.
