On a beautiful March afternoon, I had the honor of witnessing history — the formal investiture of Dr. Ruth Ray Jackson as the 17th President of Langston University. Dressed in full regalia, I proudly marched alongside my fellow faculty members, standing united in support of a leader who is both dynamic and deeply rooted in our mission.
Her inauguration theme, “Rooted in Pride, Rising with Purpose,” echoed powerfully throughout the ceremony. Indeed, Dr. Jackson’s presence, words, and vision embodied every part of that theme. “This day is more than an investiture,” she reminded us. It is a reflection of our collective journey and shared purpose.”
The event was breathtaking — from the elegant procession of faculty and distinguished guests to the soul-stirring performances of the LU Concert Choir and Band. It was capped with an inspiring keynote by Dr. Dana Williams of Howard University and the moving moment when Dr. Jackson officially took the oath of office.
As Dean of the Langston University School of Business, I couldn’t help but reflect on the magnitude of this day—not just for our university but also for our students, alums, and future generations. Dr. Jackson is historical, visionary, and unapologetically committed to moving LU forward.
This is a new chapter for Langston University. I’m proud to serve under President Jackson’s leadership and help carry forth his legacy with purpose, passion, and excellence.
